About the Authors

Paul Thompson is Professor of Organizational Analysis and Head of the Department of Human Resource Management at the University of Strathclyde Business School. In addition to many journal articles, Paul has previously authored Democracy and Patricipation at Work, Palgrave; A Handbook of Work and Organization, OUP; and the highly successful third edition of Work Organizations.

ALAN MCKINLAY is Professor of Management at the School of Management and Languages, Heriott-Watt University, UK. He was previously at the universities of St. Andrews, Glasgow and Stirling. His main research interests are in reinterpreting business history using the work of Michel Foucault, and the long-run dynamics of work processes and regulatory institutions.
