Job Opening: Customer Service Specialist
Porchlight Book Company, a bulk book e-commerce retailer in Milwaukee, WI, is hiring a full-time Customer Service Specialist. This is a full-time, office-based position located in Milwaukee, WI. Standard hours are Monday–Friday. This position reports to the Customer Service Manager.

Job Description
This role is responsible for delivering high-touch, time-sensitive customer service in a casual but detail-driven environment. Daily work centers on direct communication with customers and vendors via phone and email, managing book orders from quote to delivery, and ensuring a seamless, accurate customer experience.
Internally, this role answers and/or forwards general customer inquiries and works with other team members to facilitate excellent customer outcomes. Porchlight’s model is highly customized—this is not transactional customer service. Success in this role requires ownership, responsiveness, and a strong commitment to getting the details right.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers and vendors via phone and email
- Prepare quotes, place orders, and manage fulfillment for time-sensitive book requests
- Coordinate sourcing and purchasing through vendor partners and internal inventory
- Communicate clearly on pricing, availability, timelines, and terms of sale
- Monitor and resolve issues related to shipping, delivery, and order accuracy
- Respond to general customer inquiries (tracking, billing, product details, etc.)
- Support Sales team efforts, including onboarding new customers
- Build working knowledge of publishing, vendor requirements, and Porchlight services
- Maintain accurate internal records and complete administrative tasks with precision
- Represent Porchlight professionally in all interactions
Skills & Experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Solid math, data entry, and problem-solving ability
- Customer service experience (phone, retail, or account support)
- Comfort working in systems such as an ERP, e-commerce platform, or similar tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, particularly spreadsheet and document tools
- Experience in books, publishing, or retail is a plus

Compensation
Salary range: $40,000-$46,000 annually, based on experience.
