A groundbreaking collection of essays that will reshape the understanding of Anglicanism's history and influence in Palestine.

The ongoing war in Gaza and broader Middle Eastern violence is prompting scholars to examine the British Empire's colonial legacy in the region and the roles played by the Church of England and The Episcopal Church. The Anglican mission began in Palestine with the creation of an Anglo-Prussian Episcopal See in Jerusalem in 1841. Christian Zionism in England influenced the development of Jewish Zionism and the support for the Balfour Declaration. Yet no book introduces this complex history and brings this to bear on what happens in today's Palestine. Until now.

Edited by one of the world's leading Anglican scholars and a former president of the American Academy of Religion--and featuring contributors from across the globe, including Canon Professor Mark Chapman, Dr. Daniel Joslyn-Siemiatkoski, Dr. Miranda Pillay, Rev. Dr. Sheryl Kujawa-Holbrook, Dr. Fadi Diab, Dr. Thandi Gamedze, and Dr. Gustavo Gilson Sousa de Oliviera--The Anglican Church and Palestine will be a groundbreaking volume. It will trace the history of Anglican and Episcopal missions in Palestine, examine Christian and Jewish Zionism, offer theological and ethical insights into the relationship between religion and conflict, and provide pastoral resources to help churches respond thoughtfully and faithfully to the current crisis.
