Kristi L. Bowman is an Associate Professor of Law at Michigan State University College of Law and a faculty associate at Michigan State University's Education Policy Center. In 2010, she received the Education Law Association's Steven S. Goldberg Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Education Law for her publication "Pursuing Educational Opportunities for Latino/a Students." Her scholarship focuses on racial/ethnic equality and student speech in public elementary and secondary schools and has appeared in law reviews including the North Carolina Law Review, the American University Law Review, the University of Cincinnati Law Review, and in journals targeted towards interdisciplinary and international audiences. She also is the editor of the SSRN Education Law Abstracting Journal and in 2010 was the chairperson for the AALS Education Law Section. Bowman received her
B.A. from Drake University and her
J.D. and
M.A. from Duke University. After graduating from law school, Bowman clerked on the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and then represented school districts while practicing at Franczek Sullivan
P.C. (now Franczek Radelet) in Chicago. Previously, she worked at the
U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights.
