About Denis A Cortese

Denis A. Cortese M.D. practiced medicine for 40 years at Mayo Clinic, participating in education, research, and administration, and ended his career there as President and CEO from 2002 to 2009. He currently serves as Foundation Professor and Director of the Healthcare Delivery and Policy Program at Arizona State University, focusing on helping health care leaders embrace the solutions offered in "Rescuing Healthcare". He also serves as President of the Healthcare Transformation Institute, and his international reach includes being an honorary member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) and of the Academia Nacional de Medicina (Mexico). As a member of the Institute of Medicine, he chaired the Roundtable on Value and Science-Driven Medicine (creating under his tenure the Learning Health System Series). He has published several books including the "Roadmap Series" ("A Roadmap to Better Health", "A Roadmap to High-Value Healthcare Delivery", and "A Roadmap to Medicare Sustainability"), and written a chapter for "Breakthrough: From Innovation to Impact."
