About Deborah Mathis

Deborah Mathis is a former White House correspondent, nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, associate professor of journalism, managing editor, and a five-time published author. Like In the Arena, her other books are non-fiction: Yet A Stranger: Why Black Americans Still Don't Feel at Home (Warner, 2002); What God Can Do (Atria, 2005); Sole Sisters: The Joys and Pains of Single Black Women (Agate, 2007); and Unlucky Number: The Murder of Lottery Winner Abraham Shakespeare (Berkley, 2015). Deborah is a frequenter on the speakers' circuit and a respected socio-political commentator.
