Jack Covert will tell you he is a simple merchant at heart; his old employees will tell you he was the heart of the company he built until his retirement in 2014. Hired by the late David Schwartz thirty years ago to sell business and computer books to the Milwaukee business community in the Harry W. Schwartz Bookshops, Jack grew that 3-shelf business section into the specialty bulk book retailer Porchlight is today. As Founder and former President, Jack still offers his guidance and hard-won business acumen to all of us at Porchlight. When he’s not consulting with us, volunteering in the community, or puttering around his garden, Jack can usually be found at home watching British mystery series with his wife Ann and their two cats.

Sally’s mission as Porchlight’s Managing Director is to make Porchlight a great place to work for employees, and a consistently high-performing customer service organization for everyone in or orbiting the publishing industry. She also has a not-so-secret penchant for business strategy and contemplating the history and evolution of business, both as a socio-economic force and a literary genre. When she can find the time, she reads, writes, reviews, and edits alongside the company’s marketing team. Helping craft three editions of The 100 Best Business Books of All Time utilized both skill sets.
