Word Families: Short O

Word families are words with the same ending sound. Dog, fog and hog have the same ending sound of og. Beginner readers can use word families to improve their reading skills. By changing the initial letter of the word the learner can learn to read different words in the same word family. This helps with decoding words they don't know. These word family readers are a great resource for adults who are struggling to read. This book contains the og, op, ot, od, ox and ob and up word families. Learners should try to read the word shown on the page by sounding out the first letter then adding the word family sound. If they are struggling to read the word, they can turn the page, look at the picture clue, then try to read the word again. The words are shown at the end of each section so the learner can try to read the words on their own, without the picture clue. At the end of each book is a spelling section. Teachers or tutors can say a word family word and ask the learner to write it out.
